Waila (Tohono O'odham)

Waila
Tohono O'odham (Papago) Native Americans

Observed at the 2000 Waila Festival Tucson AZ, May 26, 2000

Done to Waila Polka Tunes

("Waila" comes from the Spanish Bailar)

Ballroom position, held very close, knees are bent and legs turned out. The couple is offset -- The man's R leg is between the woman's (like ina lambada). The Free feet drag slightly. Style is sexy but low to the ground.

THe step is just a walk, man going forward woman backing up. Man starts L, woman RI. May occasionally turn CW.

Couples progress CCW in a circle around the dance floor.
